Approaching 40Old King Lud LUD20001 autumn 2000 (CDS)
What the papers say: |
|
ilwtt.orgJangly first single for eight years, this staple live favourite (well, they played it at their one-off gig in 1997 and the two they’ve done since then, both this year) sees I, Ludicrous line up a very sensible take on impending middle age. That would be enough, but "Football, Beer And A Cigarette" cranks a Hanley / Scanlon-style hook for six glorious minutes; and the haunting "Autobiography?" from '95 is resurrected as track three. Closer "Away From The Rabble" almost upstages everything, though - "Every day, when I wake up, I thhink to myself how much I hate this country". Lyric of the year.
